A DAY AT THE MASPALOMAS BEACH & DUNES
Gran Canaria, Canary Islands
Spending a few hours at the Maspalomas beach and dunes was a great way to start our first full day in the Canary Islands.
We were able to relax and unwind a bit on the beach front. There are umbrellas you can rent, but our hotel's beach club let us small ones and towels for free. We set up shop in the public area, which was a little crowded. Typical for a beach during the holidays. While the water was cold in January, we just enjoyed soaking in the sun.
After a bit we headed towards the dunes right next to the beach.
Walking in sand is a great workout, let alone climbing sand. Especially while pregnant under the sun, make sure to bring water! There were different levels of incline, so if you don't want to sprint up a steep dune like my husband did, you can opt for a more gradual incline, which I preferred. Overall it was a fun day of playing around in the sand and getting our dose of vitamin D.
