HOT AIR BALLOON RIDE
Updated: Mar 30, 2020
I have ALWAYS wanted to go on a hot air balloon ride and was so excited to go on my first one in Marrakech with Marrakech by Air.
It was an epic experience getting to see the Atlas Mountains and surrounding landscape at sunrise. Truly beautiful and our guide was a great time once we were up in the air - full of jokes and laughter.
We were first picked up by a company car at 6:30am from our hotel. We picked up a few others on our way and were off to the site.
Upon arrival, there were some croissants and coffee, tea, and orange juice for a little early breakfast.
They had two little bonfires set up to keep up warm. I would definitely dress comfortably and ready for the cold. In the morning it was about 40 degrees Fahrenheit. For reference, I was wearing a shirt, sweatshirt, thick sweater, and a jacket and was still really cold. It wasn't unbearable, but the fires definitely helped!
Soon we saw them firing up the hot air balloons, getting ready for our ride. Pretty much right when they have them floating vertically, we were told to hop into a basket. The basket is big with separate compartments. You might not get your own little area, although we did. It's also possible that they'll rearrange you based on perceived weight to keep the basket balanced.
Once we were up in the air, the sun started to rise with a light pink dusting over the sky and a bright red horizon. It was absolutely beautiful. If you have a choice between the two time slots, I would definitely do sunrise (although it probably warmer later in the day).
Our guide had us all laughing with music and tons of jokes. She was great! We had about an hour in the air, going up and down and taking in all the views. Plenty of time for pictures and videos. At the end, you get a certificate, and are driven back to the site for breakfast.
Breakfast is in a beautiful tent. You're served hot tea - great for keeping your hands warm! There is a big platter on the table that you share with others sitting next to you. Its a complete variety from boiled eggs to bread and syrup to olives and all the like.
Overall the experience was great! I was very glad I decided to bundle up since we went in January. The experience with Marrakech by Air was overall really great! From the drivers to the guides, and even the food.
I would definitely recommend this experience if you're looking to get a different view of Marrakech!
